The boiler feed pump is the core equipment of the boiler feed system, and its performance directly affects boiler operation safety and feed efficiency. Triplex pumps and centrifugal pumps are currently the two most widely used pump types in boiler feed applications.
1. Working Principle
Triplex pumps are positive displacement reciprocating pumps that rely on the reciprocating motion of plungers within the cylinder to change the working chamber volume, completing suction and discharge. The output pressure is stable and almost unaffected by flow variations. Centrifugal pumps, on the other hand, rely on the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the impeller to transfer energy to the water, allowing flexible adjustment of output parameters by changing the outlet valve opening.
2. Performance
Triplex pumps offer the advantages of high output pressure and stable efficiency, with higher energy efficiency in medium-to-small flow, high pressure feed applications. They feature a compact structure and simpler maintenance. Centrifugal pumps are better suited for large-flow, low-pressure feed scenarios. However, when high feed pressure is required, centrifugal pumps often require multistage series configuration, and efficiency tends to drop significantly as pressure increases.
3. Application
For medium-to-small high pressure boilers, or boiler feed systems with high pressure stability requirements, triplex pumps are more suitable. For large-capacity, medium-to-low pressure boiler feed applications, centrifugal pumps offer lower operating costs and better user experience.
